Garrett Bay Inn Structures Burn This Morning

Fire which broke out mysteriously shortly before 9 o’clock this morning completely destroyed the combined laundry and bathhouse and the pumphouse at the Garrett Bay Inn resort near the extreme tip of the peninsula.

The Sister Bay fire department fought the blaze from 9 o’clock until noon, and was able to save the lodge and a nearby cottage. Damage is expected to run to several thousand dollars, partly covered by insurance.

Mrs. Harry Dana of Sturgeon Bay, owner of the property, arrived several days ago to prepare the inn for the summer resort season. She had established living quarters in the laundry building. but the fire broke out in an opposite corner, she said.

The laundry-bathhouse, of frame construction like the other building, was 65 by 20 feet in size. Dimensions of the pumphouse were 16 by 12 feet. An electric lighting system housed in the later building, and the overhead water reservoir also were destroyed.

As soon as necessary arrangements can be made, the burned property will be replaced, Mrs. Dana announced.
